The reality is that cold rolling—which is required to give austenitic stainless steels (such as 201, 301, 304, and 316) the hardness and tensile strength needed for secure fastening—alters the material's microstructure. This process introduces a magnetic field without compromising corrosion resistance. Magnetism indicates cold-rolling strength, not alloy degradation.
Galvanized coatings on carbon steel screws provide critical thread lubrication, preventing galling when tightening stainless steel bands. If unplated screws are requested, a wax compound must be applied. However, wax can dry out or rub off during transport or under high temperatures. We highly recommend using galvanized steel screws to ensure consistent installation torque over time.
