2. The Critical Role of Screw Lubrication

Tightening torque directly translates to radial clamping force. To optimize this conversion, the thread friction coefficient must be precisely controlled. On carbon steel screws, a galvanized zinc layer acts as a solid lubricant.

If raw stainless steel screws are utilized without plating, specialized wax compounds are applied. However, exposure to harsh environmental conditions, shipping heat, or prolonged storage can degrade dry wax layers. Therefore, to preserve installation efficiency and prevent thread galling, Mika recommends utilizing high-quality galvanized screws on DIN 3017 models where permissible.

3. Spring-Loaded T-Bolt Clamps & Thermal Expansion

Spring-loaded T-bolt clamps are designed for charge air and engine coolant systems on heavy trucks. These applications experience massive temperature fluctuations, causing silicone hoses and aluminum pipes to expand and contract.

Critical Installation Warning: The tensioning spring must never be tightened to its solid limit (fully collapsed). If the spring is compressed flat, it loses its ability to absorb thermal expansions, acting merely as a rigid spacer.
