Raw Material Magnetism

It is a common misconception that magnet attraction indicates low-grade stainless steel. Standard hose clamps are manufactured from austenitic grades (like 201, 301, 304, or 316). While these grades are non-magnetic in their annealed state, they undergo a martensitic transformation during the cold-rolling process. This mechanical hardening is necessary to achieve the tensile strength required for high-torque applications, which naturally introduces magnetic properties to the finished clamp band.

Screw Lubrication Dynamics

Thread friction is a major factor in clamp torque loss. Zinc plating on carbon steel screws acts as a dry lubricant, preventing thread galling.
