A common quality check among buyers is testing stainless steel clamps with a magnet, assuming that magnetism indicates inferior material. In engineering, the opposite is true. Magnetism indicates high material hardness and mechanical strength.
Our hose clamps are manufactured from premium austenitic stainless steel grades such as 201, 301, 304, and 316. While raw stainless steel is non-magnetic after heat treatment, the manufacturing process requires a cold-rolling process to achieve the necessary hardness and tensile strength. Cold-rolling transforms the soft raw material into a thinner, high-strength strip. This mechanical deformation generates a localized martensitic phase, making the material magnetic. This magnetic profile is proof of the clamp's high torque resistance and secure clamping power.
To prevent thread galling under load, proper screw lubrication is essential. For carbon steel screws, a galvanized layer provides key lubrication. This is why steel screws in DIN3017 clamps are galvanized. For non-plated stainless steel screws, a specialized wax compound must be applied as a dry lubricant.
However, liquid or wax-based compounds can dry out, degrade, or wash away during transport, storage, or exposure to harsh operating conditions. This degradation increases friction and reduces effective clamping force. For long-term reliability, we recommend galvanized carbon steel screws, or specialized surface treatments for stainless steel screws, to maintain optimal screw efficiency throughout the clamp's service life.
T-bolt clamps with integrated springs are widely used in heavy truck coolant systems, charge air systems, and turbocharger piping. The spring compensates for the expansion and contraction of the hose connection caused by thermal cycling.
During installation, ensure the spring is not fully compressed. Over-tightening leads to two major issues: first, the spring bottoming out loses its ability to absorb thermal expansion, turning the assembly into a rigid clamp; second, as the system heats up, the expanding hose creates excessive pressure, damaging the pipe fittings and reducing the lifespan of the connection.
