A common industry myth is using magnets to test stainless steel quality—assuming magnetic stainless steel is low grade. In reality, the opposite is true for finished clamps. The austenitic stainless steel (grades 201, 301, 304, 316) used to manufacture our clamps must have high tensile strength and hardness, which is achieved through the cold-rolling process.
Cold rolling rolls soft steel into high-density, thin strips. This intensive plastic deformation transforms the microstructure, increasing the hardness and generating a mild, natural magnetic field. Without this cold-rolling process, the steel remains soft and is prone to slipping or failing under high tension.
Carbon steel and stainless steel screws require a thin, reliable lubricant to minimize thread friction during installation. The zinc-galvanized coating on standard carbon steel screws provides natural lubrication, reducing thread galling. For unplated stainless steel screws, wax-compound coatings are typically applied.
However, dry lubricants can deteriorate under extreme heat or rough shipping conditions. To ensure consistent screw tightening and protect threads, we recommend using galvanized or specialized zinc-nickel alloy plated steel screws for high-torque applications.
